Doh!, I did it again or Head long down the rabbit hole

My precious…

Ok, so what do you do when you have been messed around and lied to by DPD? In my case I get incredibly angry, to the point where I have to stop myself from destroying things, which is good as I have only had my phone for less than two years. But I had a huge amount of pent up anger and frustration. So how do I get rid of it?

I buy shiny stuff like camera gear, and that is what I did. I bought a Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 Milvus. Which means I have 4 incredibly good Zeiss lenses, which are a pain to focus on my Nikon D850. So this is starting to become a problem. With my Zeiss 135mm f/1.2 APO Sonnar, I could use it with my Fujifilm GFX100s, and get some amazing shots, using the punch in focus. But the Zeiss 85mm f/14, 50 f/1.4/21mm f/2.8, all have visible vegneting when mounted on the GFX. So I needed a new option.

My initial thought was to sell my GFX 100s which has been giving me autofocus issues in certain conditions and can be incredibly frustrating when it does not work. With the money I could get from selling the GFX I could easily afford a Nikon Z8, which would be ideal for using with my manual lenses. But I really didn’t want to sell the lenses, I would have to put them up on Ebay and I would probably regret it in the long run.

So I started to look at other options. Sony and Canon were out of the question, as I hate the ergonomics of the Sony and the Canon was still retailing second hand at £2000+. I really didn’t want to buy a Nikon Z7 or Z7II, as I hate those bodies. Which left me with the left field answer, the Panasonic S1R.

When the Panasonic S1R was released, I was really impressed with the camera, it felt like my D800, had a very good 47mp sensor, inbuilt stabilisation, a great EVF and rear LCD, and is good at video. The only thing holding the camera back was it’s contrast detect autofocus, which whilst not bad, was not up to the level of Sony and Canons autofocus. Of course, I didn’t need autofocus (which has been improved with firmware updates).

The other thing with the S1R is it wasn’t a massive success, with most photographers ignoring it. This has meant that resale values have plummeted, and after some research, I was able to get a like new S1R with a 1221 shot count for £1469, with a 6 month warranty. Which is insanely good value.

So yep, I did it again. I went done the rabbit whole of buying more lenses and a new camera system. Now, I have to stop and take stock, but I am very tempted to buy 1 more lens, but that is another story.
