Dopamine, concentration and distraction

As a part of this blog, I really want to look at how neurodiversity effects, how I run my business. This won’t be a long post because my brain doesn’t want to cooperate. So today, I am re-writing my artist statement, as I felt it was a little too like my biography. So for the last hour and a half I have been trying to write, and unfortunately, my concentration goes after about 30 second.

Now, this is not an issue on a shoot. The way ADHD works is when you do something that interests you, your brain will develop dopamine, which keeps you interested. Unfortunately, my brain today seems to have a shortage of dopamine, and is on the hunt for more, which causes a problem because it makes it very hard to concentrate on one thing.

This of course, is a bit of a problem, because I have to do my artist statement and sent it out. But there is no real fixed timeline. One of the main reasons, I did my masters degree was it made me do things by a certain date, and when I have to do work for a client, I have the same thing. But when doing something for myself it isn’t as easy and this is one of the core issues with ADHD.

This is of course, incredibly frustrating. I really want to get it done but after five minutes my brain is saying no.
